Hello friends,

First, my heart goes out to those who have been affected by the wildfires across our province. As we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks, our communities are incredible at banding together in times of need to support each other. My sincere thanks and appreciation to all first responders working tirelessly to contain the fires and save land, property, and personal belongings. I would also like to thank the community members stepping up to offer helping hands.

The fires follow weeks of climate change-induced drought. Farmers, their crops and animals, are suffering from dry conditions. The government recently announced more support for wells and ponds on farmlands, but we need to push for more urgent relief so that producers are able to harvest what they can this year. This situation is incredibly touch-and-go for farmers in affected areas and we need to support them not only during this tough period, but to protect Nova Scotian food sovereignty for years to come.

I am headed back to Province House on September 23, ready to represent the people of Halifax Chebucto. A recap of the session will come out through this channel once the session comes to a close, so keep your eyes peeled!

During the session, members have the opportunity to recognize people and organizations in our communities with minute-long Member Statements. In the past I have recognized individuals, volunteer organizations, and local businesses. If you know anyone in our community who should be recognized during this legislative session, please reach out to me at kristagallagher@nsmla.ca.

I look forward to fighting for affordability, a more resilient and efficient healthcare system that appreciates its frontline workers, and housing security for all.

Cheers,

Krista
